Montreal: Hotel Place D’Armes

Hotel Place d'

Smack dab in the heart of Old Montreal across from the Notre-Dame Basilica, sits the restored 19th century neoclassical building that houses the breathtaking Hotel Place D’Armes. Though a sight of the stunning building itself leaves nothing to be desired, a stay at this hotel certainly matches the promise of its exterior. Featuring Rainspa, a full service spa with hammam, rooms and suites equipped with goose-down bedding, exposed brick walls and fireplaces and a rooftop terrace with transcendent views of the city, Hotel Place D’Armes is a true slice of European luxury in Canada. Worry not; the Canadian dollar is welcome.

Toronto: The Hazelton Hotel

Situated in the epicenter of Toronto’s chichi Yorkville neighbourhood is the city’s finest boutique hotel, The Hazelton. The small hotel boasts 77 rooms and 16 private residences that convey a sense of intimate luxury akin to a manor home – leather headboards wrap around beds in elegant L-shapes, dreamy walk-in closets with granite and wood trimmings and impossibly large bathrooms with charcoal stone soaker tubs and floor to ceiling granite. Among the hotel’s many offerings, not least of which is its private pool and spa, is world-renowned chef Mark McEwan’s upscale restaurant, One. Dine on the patio of this elegant yet modern spot and you may just catch a starlet (or two) dining right next to you. If that’s not worth the room fee, we simply don’t know what is.

Winnipeg: Fort Garry Hotel

Although Winnipeg is technically the centre of Canada, it is often not top of mind when it comes to  travel destinations. Still, the culturally rich city has a lot to offer and having a gem like the Fort Garry to usher in its visitors is a definite plus. Located on the tree-lined downtown street, Broadway, just steps from Manitoba’s Legislative building, the Fort Garry Hotel is a balanced melange of contemporary style and old-world elegance. Featuring farm-to-table cuisine, Turkish baths at Ten Spa and glamourous guest rooms with cutting-edge amenities and soaring ten-foot ceilings, the FGH may very well turn a one-night business trip into a three-night holiday.
